Correct fan clutch for '65 L78?

Can someone more knowledgeable than me tell me whether the fan clutch shown in this photo is correct for a '65 L78 car?

    Thanks.

The judging manual gives a good discription of both types. 65 BBs # 16120 & 17346 had the flat blade type and were not dated. Bill

Based on the description in the JG, I think my fan clutch is the second type described for L78 applications, but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words...

Yes, that is an original Eaton type fan clutch, and looks like a very well preserved one. The picture posted by Greg, above, is of the Schwitzer type, and both are correct. I know that yours is correct because of the shape of the raised reservoir, and the fact that there are 2 sets of 4 fins that are "fused" together at 180* opposite ends of the outer edge of the cover.
From what you show, there's no way of knowing whether it's from a BBC or a SBC. Your L78 should have the short, 1.5" shaft. "L28F" signifies December 28, 1965. So, it is for a 1966 engine. Also, the TIM&JG states that a BBC unit should have "CK" ink stamp on the reservoir cover. Many experts state that the CJ/CK stamp was not used until late 1966.
In any case, if you have your core restored, you can have a correct date inked on, and delete the "CK" stamp if you desire. You can have it inked in, and remove it in the future with some lacquer thinner or acetone.
