C1 Stupid question of the day: Fire Extinguishers

Where do C1 owners keep their fire extinguisher? Is there a place where the NCRS judges expect it to be? I couldn't find any reference to it in the judging manual.

    Thanks.

Laying anywhere in plain sight where the ops judges are sure to see it is fine. So is pointing it out to them if they miss it!

Thanks, but where is a practical place for when driving the car? Right now I keep mine in a container in the trunk, which doesn't seem like the best place if there is a fire, but I don't know where else to keep it. Do people mount these somewhere? Do they keep in trunk or in passenger compartment?

Will the judges knock of points if it is mounted to the car someplace?

Generally as a safety item, no points would be deducted for a neat installation inside the car. Depending on the year of the c-1, the package tray is an available option to hold it, and the trunk is not really out of the realm of sanity, as most fires do not generally start there.

A small extinguisher could be mounted in front of the passenger seat with a bracket fabricated to utilize the front seat mount bolts.

            At some meets...

the judging chairman will describe a 'standard' position for certain items removed from the car like jack, fire extinguisher, Etc. which is quite often aside the LH rear wheel. This keeps all the parts removed in a common place that doesn't interfere with the movement of judges around the car, lets those who have to check off the presense of the fire extinguisher a common place to look for it AND, should the need arise, a known location to retrieve it from should it actually need to be used!

Dave, Here is what I did when having my 63 judged. I set up a folding table behind the car. On it I laid out the fire extinguisher, jack and handle, distr. top distr shield, spare tire lock, license plate frame, etc. Therefore the items were out of the car and off the floor so no one could trip over them. So often you see the parts behind the car off to one side and the next thing you see is bubba stepping on them. John

Hardware stores sell Velcro with peel off adhesive backing. Put a length of the "hook" side onto the extinguisher. It'll now stick to the carpet. I put mine in the side of the seat by the door. The C1s have an area there. You could also put it in front of either of the seats if you never slide them forward.

Note that if you pull the extinguisher off the carpet a few times, it'll "pull" the carpet fibers. Make it look fuzzy in that area. You can take it off and on a few times. But don't do it constantly.

Consider a Halon or similar type. The ordinary ones leave a harmful residue. (Nothing's cheap about this hobby.)

Further to my last message, here is that company's setup for a C2. The securing bracket uses the front seat mount bolts. It does limit forward travel of the seat. Although it might appear so, it does not interfere with the passenger's legs. The Amerex unit is 2.5lb and Halotron. I prefer the gas type over the dry chemical types.

And off topic, the white wire services an IPod.
