    1969 lower alternator bracket color

was this bracket attached before painting. If so then the attaching bolt would be orange. I have seen post that this bolt was not painted. Did they change the bolt during engine final?
    thanks

Re: 1969 lower alternator bracket color

    Ralph-----

The bracket was painted at the engine plant. However, I believe that it was attached to the engine assembly by a wire or other device and was, in effect, just painted with the engine rather than as part of it. The bracket was then attached with the single lower, short bolt after painting. So, I don't think that this bolt was painted. I believe that it was just a phosphate-finished bolt. The other, longer alternator attaching bolt was installed at St. Louis, so it was unpainted, too.

I thought that all these brackets were a semi gloss black...which one then exactly was engine orange? Was this the same on 350 and 427 cars as well?

That make sence. Since the bracket attaches to the exhaust manifold and that was not on at the paint. Would the A.I.R. bracket be done the same? The A/C bracket goes between the A.I.R. bracket and the pump and I think it is black. There would be a space if the A/C bracket was not there.
        Any clearification?

          Uhmmm...Check The AIM...

Depending on what engine you have, the AIM shows the alternator assembly lower bracket as part of the engine assembly...this is indicated by a square with one diagonal half colored with the text Engine. For the base engine, this is shown on UPC6, Sheet A2 (70 AIM); if you have an optional engine, the alternator installation would be shown in the option pages in the back of the AIM; e.g. UPC LS5, Sheet A8.

For anything that is part of the engine assembly, thereis a very good chance that it's painted engine color. The bracket being installed before shipping with an unpainted bolt is new and valuable information for me...Thanks Joe.

            DOHP!!!...Checked My AIM...

Everything old is new again, and this is becoming more common for me. Actually, I already had the bolt info noted in my AIM as Black Oxide. I don't know where I came by this info whether from the TIM&JG, NCRS Tech Board, or I just made a calculated guess.

The confirmation of the bolt being unpainted is the bolt IS NOT LABELED as part of the engine assembly, and HAS A PART NUMBER...that means the bolt, wire, or whatever that attached the lower alternator bracket to the engine in Flint was discarded, and a new bolt installed when the alternator installation was made at St. Louis.

AIR pump bracket was installed on the engine and painted with the engine for both 1969 small blocks and big blocks. A/C brackets were usually installed at St. Louis. Engine assemblies, as delivered from the engine plants, were not specific as to C-60 or non C-60.

                Greg-----

All big block alternator and power steering brackets were installed at St. Louis and were semi-gloss black. Small block LOWER alternator bracket was PAINTED ENGINE COLOR as I previously described.

All AIR pump brackets were installed at the engine plant and were painted engine color.

Thanks for clearing that up Joe. I thought I was on the right track finishing wise with the alt and P/S brackets on my 69 427 but just wanted to make sure.

About the A.I.R. brackets though, I realize that the lower bracket was painted orange with the engine but was the upper adjuster orange also?

No, the adjusting brace was semi-gloss black.
