    headlight accutator question

i'm working on a 70 roadster vaccuum system. i have isolated the problem to both front accuators. both seem to be leaking. i have pulled them off and have new rod seals to install. my question is this: how do i get the old seals out? i know i have to remove threaded clevis to slide them off of the rod, but how do i get the seal out of the cannister? thanks for any help...rick

    Re: headlight accutator question

Rick I take a small dental tool and pull the remains of the seal from the grove in the cannister.

      Also...

When installing the replacement, pre-lubricate the actuator shaft with something slipperly (grease or WD40) to let the rubber slide into place vs. catching/pulling and maybe rupturing. Then, when installed, I like to bath the outside of the rubber with a graphite based lube to help prevent rubber on rubber wear abrasion as the seal slides back over itself with the actuator rod's in/out movement.
