C2- Correct board over the rear wells....

Is anybody selling the correct masonite boards which are carpeted and go over the rear tire jack wells?

Long Island Corvette, Corvette Central and Paragon sell them for about $20.00 (without carpet). I haven't found where you can buy that piece of carpet separately without having to buy the complete rear carpet set. People have also gone to Home Depot and cut their own masonite. Good luck!

"I haven't found where you can buy that piece of carpet separately..."

It used to be Al Knoch's policy to sell individual pieces of a carpet kit IF you contacted them directly for price/availability...

Auto Custom Carpets sells individual pieces. I just bought a carpet piece for the 1965 jack board cover from them.

The boards that are being sold are not masonite, they are a type of a ply board. If I am not mistaken the orginals were much harder.....any comments?

Please see David's earlier post. You can sometimes purchase masonite at your neighborhood hardware store and usually at big box stores like Lowes & Home Depot.

Collins, On my living room coffee table there is a really nice masonite board that I bought a month ago from Long Island. It's definitely not plyscore. One side of it is smooth and the other side is rough. The color of the material though might be a tad dark. But it's a nice item as the one in my car has seen better days. Also some bubba put the decals on backwards with boo coo glue. Now the trick is to get the nice old AK carpet off the old board and reuse it.
LI charges an extra 9.95 shipping for the board because of it's size. Well packaged for sure. I wouldn't order via air though unless you want to spent $$$. Bachelor life does have a plus side once in a while. In the olden days I could never have gotten away with a board on the LR table. My cleaning gal said though to me, "Are you planning on leaving that hunk of board on that table forever??? I told the pretty thing not to worry about it. Don't want the board to get warped. John D.

Collins, Have some bad news for you. Jorjorian says that the repro boards are not correct for a 63 wouldn't you know. He says the cut out pattern is different. So hopefully you have an original board and can use it for a template. John

                    John,

I do know this..all the original boards are the same cut from 63 through 67. The repops are slightly smaller then then originals, and the originals were made of a stiffer stock of masonite... I have the LI board already, when I got judged at the last Chapter meet one of the judges showed me an original with my repro and they were slightly larger by about 1/2 inch all the way around. See you in Boston....
