Rookie question: Older fuel filter replace now

    Hello,

recently I disassembled the carb (3721 AFB) of my '65 300 hp Corvette. I noticed that the fuel filter is a bit impressed where it's fixed by the clamp. Since I don't know how old it is (and it looks older) I made a todo for the winter season assuming that beside clogging an thus interrupting fuel flow nothing really bad can happen. No indication of this is noticeable currently. But may there be a reason anyway to replace it now?

    Regards
    Oliver

Dry it out and blow though it. It should offer little resistance - almost as easy as blowing through an equivalent length of 3/8" hose. If you have to huff and puff, replace it. Or replace it now for pure cosmetic reasons. In any event, you should always have at least one spare air and fuel filter on hand. Same goes for spark plugs, points, condenser.

Always keep an inventory of at least one of each maintenace part because you never know when you might need it, and sometimes finding the right part isn't easy.

It's also not a bad idea to keep good used maintenance parts that you removed because you never know when they will go unobtainium.
