Phil, Trying a search on the part number. This has all been obsessed on before. The 3981088 definitely did not come on your car from the factory. The correct tube should only extend about two inches above the tab that bolts onto the exhaust manifold. The 3981089, which goes with the 3981088 tube is several inches taller than that.

        PHIL-----

If you use the GM #3981089 dipstick tube with the GM #3981088 dipstick, you will get a correct reading with any Corvette big block oil pan. However, this combination is not "correct" for your application. If you want a more-or-less "correct" set-up, they are available in reproduction, although they may lack some nuances of original configuration. If all you want is a functional set-up and you have the above parts, you have what you need.

The combination you have was originally used for 1970-74 Corvettes with big block and later became SERVICE for earlier Corvettes.
