The two front 58 Tie Rods both have two grease fittings on them. When they were installed at the factory did all four of the grease fitting nipples face the rear or the front of the Corvette?Or did two of the grease fitting nipples face the rear and the other two face the front of the Corvette? If so, which ones.
Thanks
There were only two part numbers of tie rod ends - they were identical forgings except one had RH threads and the other had LH threads. I don't recall if the LH ones went inboard and the RH ones outboard (or vice versa), but functionally it makes no difference. All of the photos in Noland's book that show front suspension and steering (ref. page 119) support that logic, and show the RH inboard and LH outboard ends with the grease fittings facing rearward, and the RH outboard and LH inboard fittings facing forward. I doubt if Chevrolet would have created four part numbers (two additional) to drill the grease fitting holes differently just to have them all face in the same direction, but I may be all wet.
agree with john(not because i remembered but because i just this morning greased my 57 for the trip to boston). anyway, two face foreward and two face rearward. mike
