I am retoring a C1 race car. I would like to put as close to correct brake drums on as possible. On a big brake car were both the front and rear drums finned? I show part number 3869537 rear and part number 3872384 front. Does anyone have a decription for these drums. ie shoe width?

Re: C1 ( 1961) Brakes race car part numbers

All 4 drums would have been finned drums...and would have been about the 3rd design drum in a series of finned drums. All were cast # 3745534..which can normally be seen on the drum face rim...although some finned drums do not have this casting number.
It appears that some earlier design finned drums were re-worked and had the fins machined off the face of the drum.
The one I have pictured is an NOS 2nd or 3rd design. It has a coat of silver paint to prevent rust..but would normally have an unpainted surface.

Re: C1 Brakes race car part numbers
Jerry--
There's an extensive article on 61-62 RPO 687 brakes in an old restorer magazine, available on the REstorer CD from the NCRS store. It goes into spring colors, how to id front drums vs. rears, even though they have the same casting number, etc.- Top
