65 L78 Distrib Shield Points Access Window -- Why?

Always wondered why there was a points access window when there were no ignition contact point sets in any 396 Corvette. Then, to top it off, there was an early / late design change, with the larger window (below in pic) thought to be the 2nd design -- ie. easier to get a points adjustment tool to align with the non-existent points.

    Maybe it's like tonsils.

    I don't think any '65 BB metal-body chev used a distrib shield.
In 1966+, when they DID have points in a BB, they did away with the window by eliminating the lower 2/3rds of the window surround.

Designers work 2-3 ahead of production. It may well have been a strategic marketing decision to make TI a standard feature on the 396 Corvette well after the ignition shield had been designed and tooled....
