    electrical question

Fired up my 75 today..Turned the headlights on to make sure they work..Went to the back of the car and no tail lights at all. This includes brake lights and side markers. I went under the car to check it out and found a wire(blk with red strip) not connected to anything.Looked at my diagrams and cant find this wire.Any clues to what it is for? I touched it to the frame and it sparks so i am guessing it is a power source for something.Any and all help would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

    Re: electrical question

If you have a test light, turn off the head lights and see if you still have power to the wire. If it's dead after you turn off the light switch, then it's a lighting circuit wire.

As I'm a 68 Dude, I can't help you with what this color wire color operates, but if you stretch it out, I'll assume that the mate isn't far away.

Of course your rig might have had a trailer hitch under it too and the wire was part of a trailer harness.

If you don't have a test light Ken, just take a 12 volt bulb and lay the brass casing on the frame and touch the end of the wire to the contact on the end of the bulb. Unless you have to rub the casing against the frame a little to get a good ground, it will light up. Better than arching the wire against the frame and possibly shorting out the fuse or worse.

    Good luck,

I think the wire that i found was for the horn in the back for the alarm. But still dont have any rear tail lights or instrament lights, horn or reverse lights. Also the right front marker light stays on all the time.
