Re: '66 roadster gas tank filler neck position

    Hi Rob,
I checked two Quanta Repro tanks today for the mid-year cars. One is an older repro and it measures 1 3/16 inch from the back to the opening just like Wayne's. The newer tank measured about 1 1/16. With only 1/8 inch differences, I don't see how the filler neck could be an inch to far forward. You need about 1 inch from the opening to the forward edge of the tank just to get the filler flange bolted up.
If the opening is off by i inch, the whole tank configuration must be off somehow.
    Regards,

      Hi Rob,
I missed the post that state it was only off by 1/4 to 3/8 inch. May be that that 1/8 to 3/16 difference in the newer tank is showing up at the top of the filler neck.

Thanks for the info. 1/4" doesn't sound like much, but if the front edge is that much too forward and the back edge as well, it is really quite noticeable...atleast to me. Maybe I'll try another repro tank, but only after verifying the measurements. I'll measure the repro tank currently in my car today.

Re: Rob / Scott -- here's original showing dimensi

          Wayne...

Can I ask you a favor...can you measure again as you did, but this time to the first screw hole to either the left or right of center? My tank is in the car with the filler neck installed. I'd have to remove the neck to check the measurement against yours. I can, however, measure to the screw instead.

          Thanks...Rob

7/8", plus a fine blonde hair

Or to limits of measuring accuracy, 29/64ths inch. This is to center of either of the two holes that straddle the front centerline of the filler opening. Again, this distance is measured by holding the straight edge vertical and flat against the front face of the original tank.
