    Scott,

I believe there is a vendor who is reproducing some, if not all, of the shark body mounts. I just can not remember which at this time. I am sure others will inform us where they are available and perhaps someone has even had experience installing them.

      Scott and Terry-----

I believe that these mounts are manufactured by Caledonia Classic Cars of Belding, MI and/or CSC Reproductions of Rocky Ridge, OH.

        Scott,

Are you talking about the mount on the frame being rusted away or the bird cage mounting point being rusted through? This IS the mount just in front of the rear wheel, with the cover plate in the wheel well, right?

my actual birdcage is rusted. unfortunatly the body was dropped when we were lifting it. on the birdcage, where the rocker panel kicks up into the rear bulkhead it is seperated broke in two. i can fixture the body so everything alignes on a holding fixture. but i concerned about the body flexing when on the frame. will i be okay or will i get stress cracks. how do i fix this?

            Scott,

Your bad luck on the body lift should be an warning to all of us that body lift and drop are risky procedures, and bad things can happen even with the best planning and preparation. A post-mortem might be useful to all of us on NDB, if you want to talk about it, but understandable if you don't.

From your last post, it sounds like the birdcage, weakened by corrosion, separated between the sill and the lock pillar. Is this correct? You didn't mention if any bonded fiberglass joints also separated. In any event, my opinion is that you have no other choice but to restore 100 percent integrity to both the birdcage and the fiberglass. To do otherwise, is asking for problems and long term dissatisfaction with your restoration efforts. It is also likely that the value of your car will be reduced.

But, don't be too hard on yourself; the corrosion would have surfaced eventually, and caused this problem AFTER the car was restored. I would closely inspect the other side of the birdcage in the same area, and be prepared to beadblast and paint with epoxy primer to stop future corrosion.

Repair of the birdcage in that area is going to present a REAL PROBLEM. In the rear of the car, the fiberglass is tightly integrated to the birdcage, and several panels would have to be removed to expose the lock pillar/sill area for welding. For example, from studying my '70 AIM, it looks like the rear fender panel, the lock pillar panel, and maybe the sill panel will have to be removed. Check your '69 AIM in UPC 1, Sheets B9,B5,and B2 to see if they are the same.

If there is a Corvette specialist in your area, you may want to solicit their opinion. If your objective is to have the car judged, make sure he is aware of need to minimize visibility of repairs, e.g. remove panels if possible, rather than cut them. After hearing his opinion (and cost estimate), and objectively assessing your existing skills and/or your interest in learning new skills (e.g. MIG welding, fiberglass body work), you may want to let the specialist do the job.

              Scott,

Please check your e-mail address. I keep getting bounced messages from the e-mail notification of responses checkbox.

To everyone else: Please check that YOUR e-mail address is correct if you have the e-mail notification box checked. If you visit the board often and don't really need to be notified uncheck that box and save some system resources. You would not believe how many bounced messages land in my e-mail box each day.

              Give me a break.

              John

Hey John, given our server speed problems why don't you disable that function for now and see if it helps? Just a thought, but it seems that anything which uses up system resources and is not of great value should go until such time as we have enough horsepower. The notification feature is nice but I would guess that most of us chech the board at least twice a day anyway. John Mc Graw
