    1962 Tach Rebuild

Does anyone know of a rebuild kit for a C1 tach. I have it apart and it looks the tiny bearings are worn.
    Thanks
    Jeff

As far as I know tachometer and speedometer head kits have not been available for several years. I bought some from Corvette Central some years ago but they no longer carry them. Recently I needed to rebuild the heads on my 57 and searched high and low but found none. When you call the speedometer and gauge shops they want you to send in your gauge for them to rebuild. I guess the only choice left is price and quality of the rebuid. If someone knows of a current source I'd like to know also. Rich # 2272

In addition to GM/Chevrolet for speedo/tach services, there IS/WAS a coast to coast network of independent United Delco dealerships. Some of these specialize in speedo/tach repair (we have one STILL in business in Denver) and still have parts that have long been discontinued from GM/Chevy along with the Delco Remy calibration machine(s) needed to repair/maintain the finished assy's.

Our guy does GREAT work (functional only--not cosmetics) with a typical 2-3 day turnaround with a minimum bench labor fee + parts cost structure. A 'normal' invoice for a speedo/tach repair runs $65-85. You can check for United Delco dealers in your neck of the woods, or feel free to contact our guy in Denver:

        Jack,
That's not bad as the last time I bought a tach or speedo head (AC) it was $65.00 just for the part. Rich

No, these guys are good...PRO's... They're not out to 'soak' the customer and when they're done the assy (speedo or tach) IS factory calibrated!

Don't 'freak' on this one, but the Delco literature says you need to re-cal a speedo or tach if you simply remove and replace the pointer needle! I'm sure NONE of us do this when we buy and install the pre-assembled speedo head kits available from the catalog sources...
