front wheel cylinders

Tried to install the new front wheel cylinders on my '57 chassis last night attempting to get it buttoned up and found the top portion of the cylinder was too thick and interfered with the piston retainer that is spot-welded to the backing plate. The cylinder would not quite fit flush to the backing plate and exhibited a distinct mark where the bracket hit it. I could grind the cylinder to fit but that bothers me. Has anyone experienced this concern with replacement cylinders? Is there a recommendation for an exact fit in any board members experience?

If you still have the wheel cylinders that were on the car, you could rebuild them.

This is a common problem with over the counter replacements from a local jobber. You might want to take them back and either rebuild the ones that were on the car or buy from a Corvette supplier that will guarentee that they will fit. Another option is to take your old ones to every parts store in your area untill you find one that matches correctly.

Thanks for the feedback. The original cylinders could probably be sleeved, they are pretty crusty. The vendor said "grind them to fit" I am not wild about that option. I have some local jobbers ordering cylinders to see if any of those fit correctly.
