Intake Manifold - Leave Alone ?

    Hello,

I'm in the final stages of a motor rebuild for a very original '65 (original everything except, now, the motor rebuild). Motor is now beautiful, but original intake manfifold is now ugly by comparison (it's orig, has a little orange over-shoot, etc)

Anything wrong (i.e., worth of the car, etc) with me getting this beed blasted or some other clean up job, which will obviously take away from the original look ? I would think not since the motor is an obvious re-build. Thoughts ? Thanks

please respond to mhontz@raytheon.com. At work and need to know asap.

Mark, If you can post a photo of the as is condition, I am pretty sure that one of the mid-years owners will be able to help you out. Of course they could do that without a photo but, I thought it might be good for us to know its present condition. A photo of the rest of your engine rebuild would be a bonus, too.

    Just my thoughts,

A assume you are takling about an aluminum intake. DO NOT bead blast it under any circumstances. There are a myrad of ways to clean it using chemicals, but bead blasting will remove the original surface finish that was created during the molding process and is a permanent alteration to the surface. Soap, water, aluminum door cleaners and the like are all better (if more tedious) options than the blaster.

I second the motion to sent it to Jerry MacNeish . Looks great , fast turn arround , and not too expensive!
