Re: Drove my '57 from WA state to VA National...
Allan,
I think you may be reading into Dennis's post what isn't there. Your question was how many people drive top flight cars. Dennis and others provided some good insight as why it is a good idea and encouraged us to do so.
Don't misinterpret the tongue in cheek comments for critisism.

Galviston 2001
Linda and I drove our 73 coupe east from Ohio to join the road tour on the east coast and then on to Galviston. Awards recived Longest distance driven,Sam Foltz,Top Flight, and Duntov. It had a fresh restoation I had done and we had no break downs on the road. It can and has been done others I think.

Re: Galviston 2001
I was lucky enough to be offered a '65 coupe from a Texas NCRS member last summer. He ordered the car new and restored it in the 80's. It is a Bloomington Gold, Duntov and Founders award car. Ken just didn't drive the car any longer and wanted it to go to someone that would drive and enjoy it. I put about 1,000 trouble free miles on the car in the past 12 months. My plan is to take the car on some road trips and with radial tires and a 300 horse motor, it's a perfect driver. The fact that it's received so many judging awards concerns me a bit and I wrestle with having it judged again, but it's achieved most every award it can receive (aside from a Triple Crown Vettefest award). It's the perfect driver car and its lack of air conditioning, even in Texas, doesn't bother me a bit. My wife even likes driving in the car and that's a first.- Top

Alan, pay not attention to Dennis, he has been sniffin' too much giggle gas! Seriously Dennis posts are quite often "tongue in cheek". You need to meet him at the National and enjoy his sometimes dry humorDick Whittington- Top

Re: Drove my '57 from WA state to VA National...
I had to respond to this posting because you can drive a Corvette and still make top flight and most any award . I restored our 55 nearly 30 years ago , having put over 100,000 miles on her , we keep it vary clean but it's a little greasy ,dirty ,some chips, and some accessories but if you keep it other wise close to %100 original as we have any one can receive a top flight. Look we even pull a tear drop trailer and got a top flight ( at a National NCRS meet) But I have to say that "much" depends on getting GOOD judges which we had. Many Corvettes besides ours have also done it. Trailer queens get higher points score then ours because they show correct engine paint over spray here and there but top flight is top flight!! I don't wont a Corvette Trailered every where, if I cant drive it I don't wont it!!
Sorry I just had to chime in I try not to.
