Connection?

This week I was watching the intriging Red Rock movie (with Nicolas Cage, see link below). What is the connection between the Buick Riviera Boattail and the C2 Vette's?

There must be some design influences here... (I know Bill Mitchell had some involvement in this car as well)

The Buick's were popular (and still are), but I'm not sure there's a direct correlation other than both marques were products of General Motors, Rob.

Some of the old timers might comment that BOTH car's rear decks resemble an Auburn Boatail Speedster...
