    C2 Power Window Installation

Hi guys. From my previous post, I decided to convert back to power windows as evidence suggests that's how the car was originally equiped. So, I bought a power window conversion kit, which was supposed to contain all the of the parts, directions, and templates. Well, there are no templates and the directions are a joke. For example, the directions for the center console consist of one sentence; "You will need to cut a hole in the center console to place the switch into". Gee, thanks Mr. Obvious! Anyway I need some advice on how to perform the conversion.

How do I get the end of the wire harness through the conduit? The end plug is larger than the diameter of the conduit, and I can't seem to remove it without cutting the wires. Also, does anyone have measurements for the size and location of the hole in the center console? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Don, Many years ago I was going to put power windows in my 63. Sop happy I didn't though.Bought all the stuff from GM that was availble and then sold everything years later. I canned the whole project. But since you say your car had them here is the best solution. Forget using your consul completely. You must find one with the power window switch provision for sure. Unless you are just building a driver. Maybe others have successful been able to roll the edges and make a provision to hold the switch, etc but I doubt it. Those consuls are major bucks and hard to find. DOn't know if there is a repro or not. There has been a power window consul on ebay for a long time. At least there was until a few weeks ago. Wasn't listed in daily listings but was in someones store. Can't help you at all on any aspect of the install. Just thought of something. Door panels are different. Just remembered why I canned the project. My 63 still has the original door panels and it would have been a sin to not use them. That was about 30 years ago and today when the guys look at my car they all have to run there hands over the panels with amazement. Now if I only had an original rug but the repro is good enough for me. John

Thanks John. I do hate to cut up a very nice original console, but the ones I have seen on ebay are pretty rough. Repros are available but I don't know how good they are. I already planned on replacing door panels due to the power windows. This is a very pricey conversion, which is probably why it was changed over to manual windows in the first place. Oh well, it's just a drop in the bucket at this point.

      Thanks!

        Don -

The connector body where the harness plugs into the motor was originally supplied separately, and the wire terminals were inserted in the connector body after being routed through the door conduits; that's why there's a diagram of which color wires go in which slot in the connectors on sheet A2 in the Assembly Manual.

Ahhhhh - now it makes sense! I wish they had not installed it in the kit, but I'll keep working on removing the plug.

          Thanks!
