I have a '66 NOM L79 with a Muncie 4-speed (also not original) that I bought 7 years ago to drive, which I do. I've been thinking of getting one of the Tremec 5-speed transmissions and was wondering if anyone out there has one, if they installed it and level of difficulty of installation. As always, opinions are welcome.

I wrote a photo-illustrated step-by-step article on a Tremec TKO-500 5-speed transmission installation in a midyear in the April '07 issue of "Corvette Enthusiast" magazine; would recommend doing it with the car on a lift, not on jackstands.- Top

Re: Tremec Trans in C2
Mark...I'm also considering a 5 speed for my 67 L79. After seeing John's note, I've got to get a copy of the "Enthusiast" to see his article. I've been looking into the Keisler "Perfect Fit" system for installing a Tremec 5 speed into a C2. You might want to take a look at their web site. Keep us updated. Good Luck. Pete

Re: Tremec Trans in C2
Thanks John. If I do install it, it will be next spring, so I have plenty of time to do some research. I will definately get a copy of the magazine with your article. Did you install this in your car? If yes, how do you like it?- Top

Re: Tremec Trans in C2
I recently installed a tremec from keisler in my 67 427 roadster. Used all the directions and articles as guides. Had two very competent friends including a covette racecar builder helping. Successful on lift but not for the meek and it took us a whole day.
Problems...clearence, had to jack up body and use spacers. Extra parts in kit. a real pain and only a call to tech support told us these parts didnt go with my unit. Hour wasted. Finally minor leak and real difficulty lining up clutch and trans and engine. used short pilot, no good, wound up doing by sight trial and error.
Trans is amazing. Pulls well in lower gears and heaven on the highway. No more getting passed on the highway at 60 revving 3200rpms. NOw effortless 75-80 listening to ipod accessed stereo and side exhaust. First time out ran alongside a real cobra for a few miles until he upped the ante to over 100. Just like the old days, but smoother...good luck , brad- Top
