    2007 Road Tour

We are leaving this morning to join the 2007 Western Road Tour to Boston.

    As Willie Nelson sings.....

    On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again,
And I can't wait to get on the road again.

    On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
    We're the best of friends
Insisting that the world be turnin' our way
And our way is on the road again.....

Hope to see ya'll along the way.

      The tour hit the road...

at 6:00 AM from Denver this morning. Our shop sponsored a kick-off dinner last night for the those leaving from Denver. Charlie Cadenhead said to say 'hi' to all-ya-all as he left my house in the mountains at 5:00 AM...

Those of you joining the Western leg of the tour to Boston, here's a 'heads up'... I think you're really going to like your tour leaders, Ralph and Sharon Ridge. They burned the midnight oil preparing comprehensive in-route packages to guide you along the way, navigating, hopefully, without incident.

Give 'em a hand and HAVE FUN!!!!

I take it this means you are not hitting the road -- we'll miss you Jack.

Re: The tour hit the road...

Sorry, mate... I blew my travel budget going to the Las Vegas Regional + Holland/LeMans this year.

Also, Murray/Wendy Forman (Australian Chapter) are in Denver as I type and are beating the drum HARD for Yanks to go down under next Feb/March to help out with their road tour from Sydney and chapter meet in Tasmania. Guess I'm a SUCKER for leaving America and helping our out-of-country NCRS brothers!

Heck, in Boston there'll be more Black Hat judges than Roy knows how to put to work! You probably won't miss ole Uncle Jack at all... HAVE FUN!!!

            Charlie hit a snag.

Charlie discovered RR wheel bearings bad when he arrived in Cumberland, MD.

Dr Mike to the rescue. He had the bearings on hand and called a shop that got right on the job. 2 1/2 shop hours and a mashed thumb and Charlie was on the road again. He made it to Vermont today and Marlborough tomorrow thanks to Mike McCaugh.

The road tour is about helping fellow club members when they need it. We are all in this together

                If Charlie= Charlie Cadenhead...

he's getting some good improvements to his car on this trip! We fixed an interior light in Denver before the road tour started. Plus, installed the bearing collar he was missing in his interior mirror (drooping effect) and armed him with a spare T3 high beam since one of his had SEVERE Edison effect (blackening of the front lens).

I agree with Terry, you'll find all kinds of 'help' from fellow club members when you put 'baby' on the Road Tour!

I can not remember a time when Mike has not been able to help. He has helped me in our `62 and newer ones a few times over the years.

A BIG thank you to Mike.

Verne, You won't find two many guys like Dr Mike.I remember the NCRS national at Warren, MI in the early 90's. A buddy of his cooked the engine in this motor home cause it had no oil. Anyhow Dr. Mike spent the weekend helping the boys change the engine in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn.Grease and oil all over the blacktop. Parts everywhere and everyone was laughing and having a good time. Mikey was fifthy but happy. I believe the owner of the motor home passed away. Well known old time NCRS guy. Was it Howard???
Verne, glad the old fuel car made it. Wonders never cease with those things. John

                          Re: Charlie hit a snag.

Yes it was the late Howard Kirsch. He and the late Les Bierri(sp?) spent the whole week changing the engine. Dr. Mikie was one of the best hecklers in the parking lot. I will always remember the comment when Howard was hunting the dipstick and Doc told him he did not need one in that motor home because he never checked the oil anyway. Seems the reason Howard was changing the engine was that he ran it out of oil and wiped the bearings out.

Howard could entertain you for hours telling war stories about breakdowns in that motor home.....but that is another whole story

I remember seeing Howard in the elevator. He was wearing the meet tea shirt and you couldn't see the printing as the poor guy was solid grease. He didn't go to the banquet but gave his ticket to a fellow that helped the whole time. Terry from MI. I made some runs to the local auto parts store for misc crap.

That was a classic NCRS event. I recall those guys changing that engine with a 4x4 lashed to the arm of the engine hoist so they could get the reach to get that BB out & in. It was remarkable. Howard wrote a classic story for the Restorer about this trip to retrieve a car. The story was a laugh from beginning to end. Some great guys have left us.
