Installing 72 Headlights

Hi Folks,

I am installing headlight assemblies on my 72 vette. I bought the car disassembled. I rebuilt the headights (including new/used frames) before I attempted to install them. My problem is that frames do not line up exactly with the mounting holes (3/4 inch off on the middle front). The frames seem to match the stock ones; should I stretch out the frame and force it to fit? Is this the norm?

Also my headlight wil not close all the way. It stays about an inch open.

Ok, Corvette what do I need to do?

Hi Greg
Get the part numbers off the top of the headlight support. There were about 3 version made from 68 to 70, 71 to 75, 76 to 82. GM over the counters were the 76 to 82 version. If you can send me some pics and with the measurments measured from end to end of the mounting ends. You do not stretch it as GM made them to fit for which ever year and model made. You can email me grantwong@telus.net and I'll try to help you out. Also make a note if the back corners of the headlight door near the pivot is. Are the headlight door corners filled in or has a cavity. let me know. Thanks, grant

The headlight door not closing all the way can happen if the eye is not threaded onto the actuator shaft far enough. The stop and threaded adjuster could also be the problem.

What's the difference in the headlight supports? I have a 1970 that I just purchased a LH headlight support from a mid-1970's car. Thanks, Bunky
