I recently purchased the Raytek Minitemp MT6 IR gun and I am wondering when using this to accertain the actual engine temp, where is the best place to aim the darn thing. It doesn't like my chrome plated thermostat housing. How about the upper radiator hose just above the housing? I used it after the engine was turned off and the heat soak raised the engine temp to 230 degrees based upon my gauge. should the car be RUNNING when I use the gun (with the thermostate open) for a more accurate reading?
