    1964 Fuel Fill Neck ?

    Hi all,

I recently had to raise my Corvette body a bit to remove my driver's side seat belt bolt due to extensive rusting of the bolt and nut and unfortunately for me I did not think to remove the gas cap which sits on top of the fuel fill neck rubber gasket. Can someone tell me exactly this is secured to the body? I for one can not see how it got ripped as it did but somehow it did. It looks as though the fuel fill neck boot sits on top of the tank and fits firmly up to the body and is not secured in any way but I have been wrong before. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Craig Willetts

    Craig-----

The way you have surmised the fitment of the filler neck seal (boot) is exactly how it is. The seal fits snugly around the filler neck and presses against the underside of the rear deck. It is not attached or sealed to the body in any other manner.

Not attached from factory, but may have ....

.... become so by someone removing the 4 screws holding the gas door lid and the surrounding bezel. Then, when screws replaced, one or more penetrated the lip of the rubber boot; now it's attached to the tank AND the body, and a tear will result when the body is raised.

      Just a thought.

        Thanks.

I think one of the bezel screws were attached and it ripped before I realized it was attached. I hate I will have to replace an original boot with a repo but oh well my fault. Thanks as ususal for the help.

        Cheers,
