    1989 Windshield

Does anyone happen to know the history of Pinkerton windshields?

I am being judged at the nationals in Marlborough next week, and know this is a replacement windshield, but wondered if it's the proper replacement?

One of my new england chapter members thought maybe Pinkerton now owns the original manufacturer of Corvette windshields; is he right?

I am appreciative of any information anyone has. Thank you!!

    Re: 1989 Windshield

Pilkington bought the LOF Glass company a few years back, and are currently the only source of replacement Windshields for the C-4 cars. From a judging standpoint they are a service replacement item from a non-original supplier. I went thru this a few years ago when my windshield was destroyed in a Hailstorm at the Bowling Green Regional. I can tell you this much and save you a lot of phone calls. Ther is no NOS windshield in the US anywhere that my insurance company or my glass supplier was able to locate. No reproduction supplier has available a judging version of a C-4 windshield, and personally talking to the principals there is little likelyhood that there ever will be one made due to the process by which the logo was sandwiched into the glass. I have seen one that an owner took a replacement windshield, had the logo removed, and added a reproduction LOF logo he had made himself. It was not authentic looking to anyone familiar to an actual logo. One alternative (the one I took) is to obtain a used c-4 windshield and use that to replace the original. I did that as mine was completely destroyed. If the original in you car is simply showing it's age, I'd let it go. A couple of condition points on an original is likely better than the result I have, (some condition and imperfect date) but it did not slow the car on the way to top Flight.

      Hi Bill,

Thank you so much for your quick response! my windshield is already a replacement (and says pilkington), so i would have to find a "LOF" windshield off of another 1989 is what you're saying i would have to do in order to not lose points when being judged? I take it LOF is the original OEM? Thanks again!!

Yes, LOF is the original. Knowing what it takes to replace it, I'd have the car judged without changing it just to get a baseline as replacement is a SOB! If you have a good car, it might not matter, the one I have now is far from 100% judging, but as I said, mine was totally destroyed, probably the only time in my life I was glad I trailered a car to an event!
