    A.I.R. Diverter Valve - Vacuum

The diverter valve in early smog systems is actuated by motor vacuum. Different valves for different engines are designed to open and close at specified vacuum points specific to the motor. Should a diverter valve "hold" a vacuum when tested with a vacuum guage or does it have a "built in" leak down rate.

It would seem that any leak in engine vacuum is a leak and that would hold true for A.I.R. diverter valves.

Information on this topic is hard to come by so any information appreciated.

    Doug -

There's no designed "leak rate" for a diverter valve diaphragm - it should hold whatever vacuum is applied to it.
