Re: Need help with correct part number,,,C4
Doug, It's a H6054 bulb. I believe it's a GE. But you need a lot more info than that. So many variations of a rectangle H6054 bulb and a ton of companies. I doubt very much if you can buy the correct bulb for judging from your local auto store or GM. If you can provide a pic of the original bulb we may be able to help you.
I had a horrible time finding a mint bulb for my May 83 car. A while back I did an article for our local Pittsburgh chapter on early the 83 to 86 bulbs. Your bulb was used on millions of vehicles in 1989. But today NONE on the new ones will be the real deal. See if you can come up with nice pic as the part number of the bulb isn't going to help you much at all. The designs of the glass, the placement of logos, and info on the glass changed all the time. thanks for the response,, so, what does one do in this situation,, the one that is currently in there according to the judge said its wrong, but getting the right one sounds pretty much impossible,, if thats true, then why dont the judging system take that into account that the part is no longer out there?,, thanks all,, doug- Top

Doug, THe part is out there but you will have to hunt for it at the flea markets, junk yards, etc. If you send me a pic I may have it.Nott supposed to sell parts on this post though. Just trying to help you out. I don't think the C4 owners are aware of the fact that the original bulbs for there cars are difficult to locate in mint condition. Most of the parts we need for our toys are no longer available from GM. In fact a rumor I recently heard was that ALL C4 parts from GM will be history in short order or already are. Now that was just hear say at our chapter meet. Stands to reason though. It's only good business to unload all the dead inventory cause you have to pay taxes on it to uncle Sam. John
Anyhow your bulb should be readily availble in the junk yards for sure. See if you can post a nice pic here of it. I think your bulb is a lot easier to get that the earlier C4's. Typical GE one. John- Top

Re: Need help with correct part number,,,C4
Doug------
I'm not sure that all of the sealed beams used by GM in any given model year were exactly the same or, even, the same brand. They were definitely all of the same GM part number, but that means nothing for a component like a sealed beam---several manufacturers may have supplied sealed beams which met the GM specification for that part number. These bulbs may have been used alternately in PRODUCTION and SERVICE. For instance, my 1992 was originally built with Guide-branded sealed beams. That does not mean that every 1992 was, though. The same hold true for other model years.
It is true, though, that a sealed beam manufactured today, even of the same brand as original, might have certain nuances of difference from those originally used for any given model year. Of course, they'll be 100% functional, but not necessarily configured exactly the same.
So, what bulbs were originally supplied on your car? My opinion is that the only way to know that is to have at least one of the original bulbs that were originally installed on your car.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
