    70 Rear Compartment Lock: Restrictive?

Hi everybody. For PV, must the rear storage compartment lock on my 70 have a restrictive keyway, i.e., not allow the wrong key to be fully inserted? The PV manual says the ignition and door locks must be restrictive under penalty of PV failure, but makes no similar statement regarding the compartment lock.

Any information would be appreciated. Patrick Moresi #45581

If the PV judge decides you should show him it is as original it should be that way. I have had lots of things checked that are not in the book. I think the storage compartment lock was restrictive.

Re: 70 Spare Tire Lock Also

Patrick - Be sure to include the spare tire lock on your list. Bottomline is all the locks should only accept the designated key which for 1970 should be the rectangular head "J" key (ign/doors)and the oval head "K" key (compartment/spare tire). Pete

Thanks guys. Lyle - could you enlighten me on what other things on my 70 that may be checked that are not in the PV manual? I'd like to avoid taking a long trip to Waco only to fail, if I can help it.

I have not done a PV on a 70 but the E-Brake needs to hold on a steep hill up or down and is failed often. You never know how steep the hill will be or if the judge tests the E-Brake by some other method. Make sure the 90% of red line is made without any miss or sputter. Other than that good luck.

During PV, expect the judge to check/verify the keyway encoding feature of all locks on the car including the spare tire. They shipped from the factory with a matching set...
