This is a two-fold question. If we want to keep the original rims on our 68, what is the lowest profile(narrowest sidewall) widest tracking tire that would be appropriate for the car without messing up the handling? If we didn't care about salvaging the original rims and were going for the pro-touring look, what rim size and tire would be appropriate without interfering with the body.

I can only respond to "If we want to keep the original rims on our 68, what is the lowest profile(narrowest sidewall) widest tracking tire that would be appropriate for the car without messing up the handling." On my '68 I went with the Goodyear F 70 15 Redline tires from Kelsey Tire. That was original equipment on my car and with the 24 lbs. of air pressure, it rides and handles great. Of course, the flat spots have to roll out for a mile or two. After my frame off I put my Goodyear Eagle ST P 225/70 R 15 back on temporarily and experienced rubbing on the front fender near the rocker molding on turns. Never had it before, just after the body off. Not sure why. Good luck!
