65 hood -hinge area problem

Recently my hood developed a crack in the underneath support part where the hood hinges bolt onto the hood... I decided to separate the hood skin from the under 'support' portion of the hood and all was going well until I got to the corner where the hood attaches,(actually just beyond the bolt area - closer to the hood)it seems that I am hitting metal. Is there a metal piece there? I was not aware of any, it separated fine where the actual piece is that the bolts for the hinges screw into, I could not find any reference to anything in the assembly manual, any of the other books I have...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No metal except the backing plates for the hinges, catches and support.
