Screw in Clutch Stud..High Horse only?

Can anyone verify that only high horse option engines had a screw in clutch stud as described in this Ebay auction?

Quote the seller: "...with the bigger clutch you could not get the pressure plate off without removing the bellhousing....".

The fact is that with ANY clutch, you cannot get the pressure plate off without removing the bellhousing. That's true for C1, C2, C3, nad C4----everyone ever made.

As far as the clutch fork ball stud goes, the same one was used for ALL 1956 through E1966. This same one was also used for L1975 through 1981 and later became SERVICE for L1966 through E1975. This part is known as GM #3729000 and it's still available from GM.

Hi Joe I think your thinking of the full bellhousing as to replacing the clutch. The half bell type lets you drop the clutch out the bottom. There is a difference from corvette to pass but can't put my finger on it now, but it has to do with the fork ball. Phil 8063

Yes, you're absolutely correct; I was thinking about the 63+ full-round bellhousings. I don't know why; the picture was clearly the early style.

Corvette and U.S. produced passenger cars. If you see one with a ball stud that screws in from the inside it is a Canadian passenger car bellhousing. The Canadian bellhousings were like that till 1962.

I am advised the following! Seems like there is a differance in the bellhousing between the 57 2 barrel cars and the rest of the higher horsepower cars.

            In reply to the question,
The bell housing in question was used on 57 chevrolet pass and vettes with a 4 bbl or dual quads or fuelies. The 57 pass with a 2 bbl took the type that screwed in on the inside of the bell. Fyi the part # for the 365 bell housing stud is 3729000 and the part# for the 2 bbl is 3769589.
            Hope this helps
            Pete

The same bellhousing CASTING was used for Corvettes and passenger cars in 1957, but the finish machining was different - the Corvette configuration used the externally-installed #3729000 stud (13/16"-16 thread, counterbored hole), and the passenger car configuration used a smaller-diameter internally-installed stud.
