STRANGER EATS LOBSTER AND ALL IT'S EXTENDED FAMILY
Someone here suggested driving up to the North Shore for great New England seafood, so the wife and I traveled up to Essex, Mass to try a little hole-in the-wall we had heard about that was written up in Travel and Leisure magazine.
This turned out to be a home-made quasi-fast food place someone had built behind their hoouse, but it was nice and clean and seated maybe twenty. You ordered your food at the counter, and then waited for them to call your number. One of the items on the painted sign board menu was the New England Clambake Special for $37.95...it consisted of two boiled lobsters, an order of steamed clams, and corn on the cob. (Hmmmmmmm...!)
One of the young twenty-somethings running this place was taking my order, and patiently waiting for this Texan to make up his mind. I sez to him, "Do you think I can eat all that by myself?". Well, his eyes widened a bit, and he sez, "Just last night there was a guy in here that ate FIVE LOBSTERS ALL BY HIMSELF, and four orders of steamers!!!"
"GET OUT!", I sez. "No, he did!!!", he sez, "He ordered three lobsters and two orders of steamers...Then he came back and ordered TWO MORE LOBSTERS AND ANOTHER ORDER OF CLAMS. Then, I couldn't believe it, but he said to me, 'I may come back for another order of clams for dessert.' I didn't believe him, but then he did...he came back and ordered another order of clams!!!" "Who was this guy?", I sez. The young guy sez, "I don't know, but I think his friends called him 'Joe'.
But, in fairness to the 'stranger', I got to tell you...Lobsters are like Chinese food; you can get your fill of lobster, but then in two hours you're wishing you had gotten a couple more to "take out".
Wishing you guys were here.
