    Corvette Driving Excitement

I had one of those days I wanted to share with others. I got a call from a buddy who wanted to take a ride in my 65 396. The weather was perfect today and we got in the car and I drove out of the subdivison into the country. I slowly went through the gears for about a mile and pulled off the road to switch seats. He fought the idea at first but jumped into the drivers seat and began down the empty road. I told him to bring the car to speed and like two kids we were both smiling from ear to ear as our bodies snapped back into the seats with each shift. He had genuine pleasure as wind whipped through the open windows. It felt great to share my car with someone who has loved corvettes for a long time. I protect my car probably too much so it doesn't get out very much. I wish I could bottle the feeling of taking a real 65 396 through the gears and give it to anyone who needs a lift. It will be a day I will remember for a long time.

Re: Corvette Driving Excitement ( good guy )

I've also done that with many friends and some people I just met at Corvette shows , I get more of a thrill watching their faces and comments then any "awards" , even letting many kids sit in it because vary few people drive around a 55 Corvette any more as we do.It makes the time, money and love worth what I've put into it.

Interesting Thread! I too enjoy other people enjoying our car. My favorite is cruising in the right lane. Along will come a family cruiser with the kids in the back ogling the Vette. I wave back and they get a big kick out of being waved too! Making a kid smile is priceless!!! Al W.

Our Club had (controlled) access to a road circuit last week. Some 14 Corvettes in all. My 1967 was the oldest. It was my first time on such a course and I very much enjoyed the couple of laps I did. Speed was kept down but on some of the 90* turns the car protested a bit. Of course after 40 years some parts get creaky, just like the driver.

We left Boston Friday morning and drove our 57 south toward Carlisle.

Somewhere on I81 we stopped at a rest stop and drew a crowd. In the group was a family from Korea. The father was particularly excited to see an old Corvette. He had seen pictures but never an actual car.

I had him sit in the car while his daughter took his picture. They were all smiles and chattering with excitement among themselves and I was happy to oblige.

I always love it to see other people having a great time in one of my cars. Observing their 'virgin ride' in a Vette is priceless...

                greetings,
