    '72-For what it's worth dept.

So much for the "6 month" rule. I just finished replacing the original plug wires from a 55,000 mile '72 and found 7 of the wires dated 3Q 71 as you would expect but one was dated 3Q 70, a full year earlier. Just thought someone might find this interesting.

    Jeff,
My July 12, 1971 build 7K mile Bowtie car has spark plug wires dated 2Q-71. Obviously they are just right but the coil wire only is dated 4Q-69. 1 1/2 years earlier. Go figure.

      Jeff -

Not unusual in the normal scope of production - wires came from Packard Electric as individual items by part number (not as a set), and when the stockchaser refilled the bins on the engine dress line, the old wires on the bottom of each bin stayed on the bottom when he dumped the new ones on top of them, and they could stay on the bottom for a long time.

Remember the six month rule is the "normal" you see. There can and will be exceptions. Depending on the judge you may or may not be able to defend these exceptions on the judging field.

My Jan 29 1970 has all 4Q69 except #4 & #8 are 1Q70 and #7 is 3Q69, I recall an employee of Packard Electric was surprised the wire dates were so close.
