    65 clock help

I just re-installed my clock and after a day or so my battery ran down. I traced the draw source and the clock was pulling 4 amps. Does anyone know if this is normal? If not, what could be pulling that amount of amps? Any suggestions. Yes it is a mechanical clock. thanks for any help

No, that is not normal. It should only draw in short flashes ever 3 or 4 minutes.

      As Wayne said, not normal.
Sounds like the internal points are stuck closed on the solenoid mechanism. Probably ready for a rebuild.
If you are mechanically inclined remove the cover on the clock and look at the points and associated wiring. Possibly you may be able to repair it by filing the points... a short term fix. If the points were stuck you might as well send it out for refurbishing.

Re: 65 clock - to much draw!

I keep my clock (mechanial) running 24/7 via a 1Amp fuse. Any more than that means trouble some place.

          Joe,

If the clock is working, check to see if the hot lead to the clock is not grounded to the case, or there is a flakey connection. The clock should only take a draw in current every 60 to 90 seconds.

If you have a continuous draw on the battery and the clock is working, it must be something else.

            Joe -

Make sure your glove box light is turning off when you shut the door (the only things on that circuit are the clock, courtesy lights, stop light switch, and the glove box light).

              Check this terminal

The one with the nut on it.

Just a little bend in that terminal tab will ruin your whole day.

I know the insulation is not correct on the terminal in the picture.
              But it works!

Also, 4 amps continuous discharge would produce a lot of heat. You need to check other locations.
