    Leaking Oil filter cannister -67

I installed a reconditioned oil filter cannister that I got from David Crane about 8 years ago, and its leaking around the bolt. I seriously doubt he'll do anything about it. Can these be rebuilt? Is there a seal that can be installed under the bolt, and how is it done?

    thanks!

I just found a cannister rebuild kit from LICS for $10.00. Has anyone used it?

I installed a reconditioned canister from Paragon. It too had a leak at the bolt at first. I tightened it more... still leaked. I checked the torque requirement and went to that... still a small leak. Finally got out a bigger wrench and it stopped the leak. I believe that the first tightening needs to "set" the seal at the bolt. With the gasket at the rim absorbing some of the force it is difficult to get that set. Once this has been done then the "normal" tightness will suffice... I'll find out at the next filter change.

        Thanks Steve for your reply,

I'm sortof hesitant to tighten the bolt that much (althought I'm not really certain "how much" that is" for fear of pulling the threads. Maybe someone else can chime in who has some experience here? Wondering if a new seal on the bolt would help, or maybe I do need to torque it up....

        thanks,
        Brandon

I installed the rebuild kit from LIC. It was easy didn't take long and worked with no leak. For $10.00 I think you should give it a try.
