Attn: Joe Lucia; LT-1 Head Bolts/Washers

    Hello:

Putting back 70-Z28 LT-1 back to original form. Will install original heads
soon. Will use GM#12495499 head bolt kit which has thread sealant on them.
GM also makes hardened washer #14011040. My question should I use the washers
or just install the bolts w/o them? Please Advise.

    Thanks;Larry Evoskis

    Larry-----

First of all, understand that the GM #12495499 bolt kit does not contain bolts that have a head configuration anything like the original bolts used for your application. All of the bolts in the kit have a smaller wrenching surface than the original bolts and they are a flanged head style bolt.

If you decide that you want to use this bolt kit under the above-referenced understanding, you do not really need to use the hardened washers. As I mentioned, the bolts are flanged head and do not really require the hardened washers, especially with original cast iron heads. Keep in mind that the length of the bolts in the kit do not take into account the thickness of the washers. So, if you use the washers, the downside is that you will lose thread engagement equal to the thickness of the washers.

If you were to use stock head configuration bolts, then I recommend the use of the washers even though some thread engagement is lost in the process.
