    Oil Filter adapter 1965 300hp....

My motor had this adapter installed. Notice there is NO overflow valve. Can this adapter be safely used as-is or am I missing something....

    Thanks..

I believe this type of spin on oil filter adaptor

...uses an oil filter with a built in bypass for clogged filters - I recall they use a Ford filter...

        I had a similar setup on a 283 and it used a PH-8 filter (I think) but it's been a long time.

It is very possible that it was a PH 8 Fram. That WAS THE MOST POPULAR PART #
          for fram for years.

            Dennis and Jim------

Yes, that's what it is. As others have mentioned, this type of adapter uses a Fram PH8A filter, which is the filter used on a HUGE number of Fords and Chrysler products. This filter does incorporate an integral bypass valve, so no bypass valve is required in the adapter.

The PH8A is about the same length and diameter as a PF-35, so it will even look like a GM filter in configuration. You can purchase the equivalent AC Delco-branded filter under Delco PF-2, so at least you can have a Delco filter in the car.

There's no danger of accidentally installing a Chevrolet V-8 spin-on filter (ie.e a filter without integral byass provisions) since the threads are different.

By the way, all Corvette engines use a bypass valve external to the filter except for TWO. So, what are those TWO? 2006-2007 LS-7 and 2007 LS-2. They use a PF-48 filter with integral bypass valve.

Thanks all....you got me moving forward. What a wealth of shared knowledge, no matter how obscure. Joe...the delco PF-2 (or WIX 51515) it is!
