Advice on a 63 Paint Job

Fellas (and ladies)- Ive got an orginal 63 FI. The car was originally Sebring Silver with Tan/Saddle leather interior. The car was repainted years ago to Riverside Red. I have a small crack in the right front clip where the hood and fender meet starting at the 90 degree turn and running up the fender wall along where the hood and body meet. I also have bubbles on my hood where the sun reflected off the Air Cleaner. (It has std 4B Carb on it now, I'm buying the FI unit to put on it as well--Big expense also!). As it turns out, I've been quoted 2K to fix the crack and have the hood repainted red.

My question is....Do I put an additonal $6,000+ and spend $8,000+ and have it painted the original color, Sebring Silver? Has anyone ever seen a 1963 FI Sebring Silver with Tan Leather interior before? This could be one of a kind?

I bought the car in the low 20s. With the injection unit, correct air cleaner and some other things I will have 33-35K in a RED car. For another $8,000 I've got an 100% original Sebring Silver. Will it be worth +40K?

I'm planning on keeping the car to pass onto my kids. Maybe someday, I'll show it. Also, if anyone knows a Bill Rice in Northern Ohio, please let me know.

Pass The Paint Job Bill On To Heirs

This is a no brainer! Spend the bucks for the silver paint! You won't regret it. NOTHING is so startling and tasteful as the aluminum engine compartment of a 63 contrasted with a silver body. Trust me! The value of the car will increase dramatically. Red is a great color BUT.........so many of them!

I agree with Dale, Have it painted the original Sebring Silver color.

I'm with Dale on this one, put it back to original and you will still be ahead at appraisal time. Red Vettes , hasn't everyone got one ?

          DALE'S RIGHT!!!

          John,

OH YEAH; Sebring Silver fer' sure. And, red is my favorite Corvette color.

But, do a search for "Sebring Silver" in the archives; there was a thread just days ago dealing with getting the right Sebring Silver these days. Not as easy as you might think.

I also have a 63,years ago when I first bought it, it was black and had a 4-barrel Holley and alum intake. After some research I found the car was an original FI and Sebring Silver. It was a simple decision, now 13 years later the car is again fuel injected and Sebring Silver. I am always complimented on the car especially the color. Red Corvettes are nice but "everyone" has one.

Just convinced a friend of the benefits of maintaining Seebring Silver when re-painting his 63 Coupe.

              The finished product is stunning.

              You won't be sorry!

                              Big Block Geroge,

Brush marks are careless and sloppy jus' like factory, but too much "orange peel" is not allowed.
