Can you support an extra corvette 350 from the bottom with wood to keep the oil pan off the floor? What should you block under? I have seen metal racks at swap meets but need to make something up quick.
Yes, you can. In fact, this is how engines are often supported in crates for shipping. Make it up so that the engine is supported on the oil pan rails. Make sure that you use soft wood at least at the surface that contacts the rails. It's really quite simple to make this sort of engine cradle.
When the rebuild shop delivered the engine for my 79 they arrived with it sitting in an old tire in the back of their pick-up. The rear portion of the oil pan was sitting in the opening of the tire. Since then I have hauled both SB and BB's in my pick-up in a similar manner and haven't detected any damage to the oil pan. Might be a quick storage solution.
