    C2:67 Hazardous Waste Dump find

Well, the local County here had a free hazardous waste dump day, and I took advantage. Cleaned out some 25 years of paint from the garage and basement.
Here's what the back of my battered El Camino looked like:

Got to the back of places in my garage I haven't seen in many years, and found my trailer hitch and ski rack for my 67 Corvette. But in a box of miscellaneous parts next to the hitch, is a part I instantly recognized:

Brought back memories from 1976 when I replaced my 3810 Holley with a double pumper and gave the original away to the kid across the street. I remember that the PCV hose wouldn't fit the new carb so I made a new one.

So one house, one marriage, and 31 years later, the old PCV hose shows up.

The good news is that I now have a 3810 back on my 67 within 2 months of it's assembly date.

    The bad news is:

My original PCV hose is hard as hell and cracked at the end.

Just thought I'd document the shape for the record and have a few laughs.

    Having fun,

If that PCV hose had been in any condition like the one it was in when it was installed at St. Louis, I would have been absolutely amazed. The fate of your original PCV hose is just about like the fate of every other one---hardened and cracked. Want a new one like it? Order a GM #3981058. You'll have to trim it to length on the long end and, possibly, just a bit on the short end.

      You Know You're Listening...

To a real GM parts expert when they can tell you which end of a PCV hose is the long one and which end is the short one. (LOL)

Only kidding you, Joe...I conclude there must be some distinguishing characteristic about a 67 PCV hose that makes it have, er...a long end and a short end.

Back in school, it took me a while to get my mind around the thermodynamics concept of entropy...now I think I understand real life application; the things that once were soft get hard, and the things that were hard get soft; the things that had hair...well, you get the picture.

          Gerry -

I'm amazed your haz-dump folks accept latex paints; around here, that's about the only thing they WON'T accept. When you have leftover latex paint around here, you have it forever.

              Great program out here

Quarterly event, they accept almost anything, no charge.

Drove up to the site with the ground covered in visqueen. They wouldn't let me get out of the car. All these guys in white suits unloaded the car for me, was done in 5 minutes.

              Regards,

Here you just remove the lid on latex, let it dry up, and they will accept it with the regular trash.

                  Latex

In this city the latex procedure is to dump some kitty litter (clay) in, wait for it to dry, put dried clump in regular garbage, and dry paint cans in recycling blue box.

It's a MOLDED hose. The "short end" is the end closest the molded, 90 degree bend. The "long end" is the other end.

Actually, I think that the 67 PCV hose might have had a somewhat larger OD than the 3981058 hose.

                      Ohhhhh...It's A Molded Hose!...

I knew it was something like that. Good find.
