    More 63 deck lid

The AIM and parts catalogs have only one part number for the deck lid latches, meaning that identical parts are used for both sides. The geometry of the latch (due to the location of the spring) is such that the notched piece of the latch (which engages the catch on the body)is approximately 1/4 " farther forward on the passenger side than on the driver side. In my particular case, it's enough to keep the driver side latch from engaging the catch. It appears that I have the deck shimmed properly, because with the latches removed, the deck closes and the fit is symetrical with no binds or gaps. Any tips or tricks to getting these things lined up properly ?

The weather strip is new, but that is not the problem. The mis-alignment is not up and down, but front to back. The latch piece needs to move forward 1/4" or more to engage the catch bar. I can't move the catch back unless I redrill the mounting holes in the body. I didn't have the car too long before I tore it down, but in that short time I always had problems latching and unlatching the deck lid.

That latch thing on not closing,I have the same problem.
It would be nice to lift it up and drop it to close it. But not on a 63 they need more love.1 side at a time and only push above the latch walk around car say I love this car and push down on other latch.Never push in the middle.
The same goes with the hood dont drop it.2 things rember, the master brake screw going into the hood, and the cookie sheet screw going into the radiator.
After that they changed the screw and ripped off the trim screw on the cookie sheet. So push 1 corner at a time on the hood also.
Now the 1/4" gap it will not grow an extra 1/4" for you.And we do not want to redrill any new holes.
        Take your time.
Lets loosen all the bolts, and see if we can close the lid and latch it.check your gap on the lid.Keep the lid closed and now crawl into car and snug up the bolts. That's about the best it will get. After you see a few others they are all the same.Denny72
