    55 Dist.

People restoring a 55 for NCRS and others have asked about the Dist. For early and late Corvette.
Early to #400 used a first design Dist. And vacuum advance # 1118085. Pic'ed here is the Dist. That's held down by a solid plate that you needed to slip into the Dist. Housing. Later second design Dist. Dint have that slot and looked like all newer 56 up Dist.===Both early and late had the same part number!

(Pic. Is a car using the oiler tube ,but Corvette used the screw grease cap design !)

I'm answering questions asked by people in NCRS here in this forum to help others restoring a 55 so you can use the JM or this info, you make up your own mind.

      Re: 55 rear end nut

People restoring a 55 for NCRS or others have asked about the rear nut design , Corvette used a "large" cover nut ,wear as most Cars used the smaller cast nut. Both car and Corvette used the same cover, about the logo???

        Re: 55 Radi. shroud

People restoring a 55 for NCRS or others have asked about the Radiator shroud , first design up to #?? Dint have the top hose cut out,/ but second design did seen here, also there was a (FIVE-piece) lower fan shroud held to the radiator lower support and lower curved shroud by two clutch head screws that fill the two holes you see most restored 55's missing.

          Re: 55 headlights

People restoring a 55 for NCRS or others have asked about their headlight bulbs ,there were three different designs / first was a 12V tin back having no 12V logo in-bossed in the glass number to #100 ?? ( they only had a sticker), second design also a tin back and now has the 12V logo in the glass to #400 ??, third design was a sealed glass unit ( called a seal beam now) also with the 12V logo in the glass ++car used the same designs.

            Re: 55 Dist.

            Roy:

I notice the oil groove around bottom of the distributor housing is different than '57 and later 283. It appears to not have the groove all way around. Will this distributor oil the top end in a 283? Will the 283 distributor with the full circumferential oil groove oil a 265?
