    Speaking of C2 A/C Receivers / Driers

Jerome's post below jogged my brain cells on a question I've been meaning to ask. Here's an NOS drier / receiver that I bought from a GM dealer about 1982. Note the square boss to the left of the sight glass. I have another used drier with the same square boss.

But the drier I got with my '65 (014xx, early Nov.64) does not have the square boss, but rather a continuation of the cylinder of the same diameter as the sight glass boss. The other side has a vertical round protrusion (you can see the bump just north of the "evap" stamping, and this is on all three examples I have, including the one that came with my car.

Also; is this black plastic plug of the type expected to be present according to the '65 TIM&JG ? (5th ed., pg 127, bottom)

So, how does this "square boss" judge ? Is it immediately flagged as a replacement ?

Wayne - A feature I have also noted but don't know if there's a correlation. But here's a couple of data points for you. The orignal AC driers on my late 66 C60 Chevelle has no boss, where as my early 67 C60 Corvette has the boss. Pete

Black plug should be in place for judging.
