Jerome's post below jogged my brain cells on a question I've been meaning to ask. Here's an NOS drier / receiver that I bought from a GM dealer about 1982. Note the square boss to the left of the sight glass. I have another used drier with the same square boss.
But the drier I got with my '65 (014xx, early Nov.64) does not have the square boss, but rather a continuation of the cylinder of the same diameter as the sight glass boss. The other side has a vertical round protrusion (you can see the bump just north of the "evap" stamping, and this is on all three examples I have, including the one that came with my car.
Also; is this black plastic plug of the type expected to be present according to the '65 TIM&JG ? (5th ed., pg 127, bottom)
So, how does this "square boss" judge ? Is it immediately flagged as a replacement ?
