Jim, It has been a while, but since I have a coupe I expect those are the instructions I used. I was not aware there were different instructions for the convertible.

It was on the second or third radio/instrument cluster R & R that I discovered the slots for the console, so I can’t claim any mechanical brilliance.

Not to hijack the thread but related...

I have a 10/68 build date and I just had my mono radio gone through by Ray's Auto Stereo in Sacramento for $260. Lots of caps replaced. Great guys there and they do a lot of vintage radio work.

My knobs were pretty crusty looking so I ordered some replacements and threw the old ones in a bowl of soapy water. To my surprise after 3 days the old knobs looked pretty good but the spacers had obviously been "modified". Now that I started looking, I'm not sure they are original at all. My new knobs came and they were just knobs, no spacers. Checking the CC catalog the spacers look like modified 77-80 style. I see that 68 is by it's self and then there is 69-71.

As I have run across so many times before so I'll ask, for an Oct 68 build date, are the 68 knobs and spacers correct or were the 69-71 knobs being used? Also, 69-71 knobs are listed for the stereo version and "noted" that they will work on non-stereo radios. What's the difference? Pictures would help.

The radio control knobs for '68 were unique in terms of front side cosmetics (as so many individual '68 parts are). The difference between knob sets for mono vs. stereo radios deals with the RH/LH fader adjustment. Mono radios didn't need to adjust RH/LH speaker balance, but stereo did. So, there's an extra, below the main knob 'spacer' on stereo sets with a small lever on it that serves to adjust RH/LH speaker balance....
