I recently acquired a 1970 ZR1 Coupe from it's owner of 29 years, and I'm working on uncovering more about the early history of the car.
The coupe came from the Highland Indiana area - at least that's where I was able to trace the car back to it's second owner at or around 1977. Based on what the 3rd owner who bought the car in '77 told me, the second owner might have been an attorney, with a hobby of buying and selling sports cars.
This ZR1 is unique in that it's one of 3 known 456 posi equipped cars, so whether it was a club racer or 1/4 mile car is unknown. I have a partial build sheet that confirms it's ZR1/456 status, and also includes dealer #183. Unfortunately the zone# is missing.
The car is Bridgehampton Blue with Bright Blue vinyl with Tilt/tele. The tilt/tele column is the only option on the car other than the ZR1 Engine package (LT1, F41, J56, HD radiator, M22, no radio, etc.). It's a fairly late-build car at VIN#139XX, which makes it early July production. This translates to dealer delivery sometime in July or early August 1970.
The car appears to have been undercoated by the dealer, and has been re-painted once in lacquer in the original color. The seat upholstery inserts were also changed to (groovy) blue velour fabric some time in the 70's.
Any info or leads provided to help uncover this car's history is greatly appreciated.
