    C2 Front Springs

I installed some new front springs (66 BB) several months ago and then continued on with my frame off work. I could have swore that they were in the frame pocket at that time, but for whatever reason they are not now. Who knows what may have happened at the body shop.

Question is, can I just rotate the spring back into the pocket with a little friendly persuasion of some kind or do I risk damaging something.

If rotation is an option, any suggestions on the method.

    Thanks

    Bob

If the springs are the factory HD style, they are short enough to be loose in the spring pocket when the suspension is off the ground and can be rotated. If some other spring was used, likley no chance.

Thanks for the reply Bill. The springs are the "normal" BB version, not F41. They were the same size as the SB versions that I took out. If I remember correctly, the SB and BB versions were the same height and the F41s were smaller. Hope that is the case because like I said these are the same length as the SB ones that I took out. The came from Long Island.

        Bill, Bob,

Any news on this topic ? I saw Bob's response saying that the spring should be able to rotate within the A-arm with the wheel off the ground. I'm quite sure my whole front end is stock and I can not rotate my springs. Could be they're rusted in there. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, I'm getting ready to remove the A-arms and I've heard horror stories. Is it that big of a deal with the right spring compression tool ?

        Thanks,

In my book there is no way you are going to rotate a standard spring while completely mounted...even with the wheels off the ground.

There are some tremendous forces present in the A-arm spring assy.
I found that a spring compression tool that utilized the upper shock mount hole and hooks on the lower coils works. DO NOT use threaded rod from you local hardware store. You need grade 8 materials.
