Re: Carter built's were scattered in '70, early+la

    Roberto,

You debbil, you just wanted to see if I could find it; the article is in WINTER '1998', page 40. Mark Smith, one of the co-authors, is the individual I referenced in an earlier post on dated carburetor cores, but I didn't know his address.

    Thanks for refreshing my memory.

      Craig,

I will look in my data for you, but engine build date has only a little to do with the date of the carburetor.

Carburetor was installed at St. Louis, thus body build date off of trim tag, or serial number, is a better determinant of carburetor date.

Craig, email me your VIN number and build date off the board if you wish and I will advise you that way.

Prior to the research I did for Juliet I was under the impression that some low volume Rochester models (read mostly Corvette) were licenced to Carter because of that low volume. While looking for other 1970 base motor M40 applications for her I found some Rochester produced and some Carter produced 7040202. Surprised me.

Just goes to show there is always something to learn.

      Happy learning.

      Terry

        Re: Correct '69 Carburetor

Just to add to the "data base" for Carter built Quadrajets- I have a #7040202 dated 0E also that is Carter built like Craig's. I have two #7020202's that are Rochester built. Hope this helps someone. Jeff

          Re: Correct '69 Carburetor

          Jeff,

          Thanks for your input.

The article that we referred to in The Restorer (Winter 1998, page 40) shows Carter built 7040202 Quadrajets dated as late as F0. Your post, however, has drawn my attention to a possible error in the NCRS Spec Guide.

In 1970, some of the Quadrajets had an first design and a second design. This design change was indicated by changing the carb part number from a "zero" to a "one" in the sixth digit, e.g. from 7040203 to 7040213. The second design Quadrajet for my car, 7040213, was apparently built entirely by Carter.

The NCRS Spec Guide references a second design 7040212 carburetor. In the article, the authors have never observed any 7040212 carburetors built by either Rochester or Carter, and the fact that Carter built 7040202 Quadrajets dated as late as F0 makes me wonder if 7040212 carbs were ever built. But this is strictly BS and speculation on my part.

            Re: Correct '69 Carburetor *TL*

            Chuck et al,

I almost dropped the 7040212 and 7040513 from the last revision of the TIM&JG because I couldn't find anyone who had seen one. Anyone out there in cyber land seen one?
