Just installed a Lectric Limited single wire elec. ingition. I removed the dist. and reinstalled in what I thought was the same position,(it dropped right in) vac. can now needs to be against the coil mount to get 12 BTC.It was always close to the coil, but there was some room at 10 BTC. Tried lifting the dist. and rotating the shaft "one tooth" ccw, result was , of course, that the vac. can then needed to agaist the intake even run. Am I still off a tooth? Did I overshoot? Is there any issue with these breakerless unit? Any suggestions on getting the distributor right on the first try? Thanks ( I know the dist gear is properly oriented)

Re: 63/340 hp timing
Jim,
I have never installed one so take this for what it's worth but can you turn the shutter wheel 180*, this may cross the magnetic switch a little later so the distributor main body can be moved back to a center position. Outside of this, it sounds like the lower distributor gear needs to be turned 180* and all should be OK.- Top

distributor
An FYI for anyone interested, I had this dist. rebuilt by one of the well regarded people in this business. I took it on faith that the dist. gear would oriented correctly. Well, guess what, last night ,being the methodical sole I am , I pulled the dist. and what do think I found? That's right the gear was 180 degrees out. I keep learning this same lesson every few years about taking things on faith. Oh well, guess time was about to expire....! Just a reminder to check the basics, they virtully never fail.- Top

The last five...
Breakerless SE modules I installed went on very nicely without pulling the distributor. That's one of the reasons I really like this system! It's one of the easiest to install/remove on the market and it's LOADED with nice technical features.
BTW, Lectric Limited is NOT the mfgr of the Breakerless SE. It's made by M&H Fabricators out of California who're a much larger manufacturer of classic car wiring products (Chevy, Olds, AMC, Chrysler, Etc.). M&H treats LL as an OEM/warehouse distributor and LL has them repackage the product to make it look like LL it's their own product...
Doesn't much matter, because regardless of source of purchase, it's a GREAT ignition system!- Top

Re: distributor
Jim,
Sounds like a happy ending/easy fix, let me know how the engine runs with the breakerless.- Top

Re: distributor
You should contact him and explain the distributor gear indexing issue - odd number of teeth means it's indexed half a tooth off if the drive gear is on backwards.
There's nothing about this in the service manuals, so most figured it out themselves or heard about it.
I figured it out in 1966.
