    C1 water pump

Would someone please identify the following water pump:
    p/n 3782608 or 3782808
    dated 1 20 8
no bypass port, hex head bolts holding the cover plate.
    removed from a '57 283 std motor.
Did this pump have an application on a corvette and is it worthwhile to rebuild and reuse it or go after a new replacement pump.
    Thanks

I have a 608 pump it came off a 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS, 327, 300HP, it is the original pump for this motor, I'm sure it fits other applications as well. Hope this helps you out.

The 3782608 water pump housing casting was used on low horse Corvettes from 1963-1970 as well as many Chevy V8 passenger car engines. It has internal bypass construction and functionally replaced the 3736493 water pump housing that was used in the 1957-60 era.

As Mike said, for this as well as many other engine castings, there were two (or more) sources within GM (Saginaw/Flint and Tonawanda). Corvette, with its single final assy plant in St. Louis, exclusively used Saginaw/Flint assy's for small block engines due to freight-in considerations.

          Howard------

The GM #3782608 waterpump casting was widely used in Corvettes from 1961 to 1970. Basically, it was used for all Corvette small blocks during this period except those requiring external bypass.

It was also used for the vast majority of other Chevrolet small blocks during the 1961-1968 period.

As others have noted, there is a difference in the configuration of the Saginaw versus Tonawanda castings and only the Saginaw castings were used on Corvettes. However, functionally, they are identical.
